thanks for taking the time to make a comment. i would say that, if the church in the west isn't willing to start at the beginning of it beliefs and practices, rethinking all -- not in the submission to the post-christian culture, but in submission to the continuing voice of the breath of God -- then what we know of church in the west will simply pass off the scene (and this is occurring).
o.t. scholar walter brueggemann reminds us that "the reality of God depends on the compelling case made regularly by the witnesses." And for us, the witness as the means of grace pour forth from our liturgy, the TEXT, tradition, the rites of baptism and communion, etc. But what if even our own people can no longer make "witness" to these means of grace? as you say, how will we survive?
